Geoscientists Supporting EU Policy Goals
Geoscientists contribute critical knowledge and expertise to a wide range of policy areas, including climate change mitigation and adaptation, sustainable resource management, energy transition, natural hazard assessment, and environmental protection. In this context, EFG’s advocacy efforts aim to ensure that science-based evidence informs decision-making processes and that geologists are recognised as key contributors to achieving the EU’s strategic goals, such as the Green Deal, the Critical Raw Materials Act, and the Circular Economy Action Plan.
Since its founding, EFG has taken part in numerous public consultations, provided expert advice to EU institutions, and organised high-level policy events to foster dialogue between scientists, industry representatives, civil society, and policymakers.
These activities help bridge the gap between science and policy and ensure that geoscientific knowledge is accessible and actionable in regulatory frameworks and public planning.
