On 26 April the UNECE Resource Classification Week started with a workshop on the United Nations Framework Classification (UNFC – 2009). This event was followed by the seventh session of the Expert Group on Resource Classification (27-29 April). During these three days the sessions covered the relation with other national classification systems such as the Russian and Chinese and the application of UNFC to Solid Minerals, Petroleum, Nuclear Fuel Resources and Renewable Energy Resources. During this week the different presentations have shown the value of UNFC as a common global language for energy and mineral resource estimates and a tool for the comparison of renewable and non-renewable energy resources.

Especial relevant for EFG are the Mineral exploration and the relation between the UNFC and CRIRSCO system; the Oil and Gas and the relation between UNFC and PRMS; CCS specifications; and the new UNFC 2009 specifications to Geothermal Energy Resources. Finally the Competent Person concept for the different geosciences domains is a topic relevant for UNFC. In this regard, EFG would like to share the EurGeol Title approach for Competent Persons on geosciences in Europe.
