Mission
Inspiring geoscience learning & careers through education, research & outreach across Europe.
– Establishing cooperation with the educational sections of the national associations;
– Promoting Geoscience education to the public for understanding the causes and potential societal consequences of natural Earth processes such as earthquakes, floods, landslides, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, weather, global climate change and the production, availability, and potential depletion of natural resources (groundwater, soil, mineral, and energy;
– Collecting information and creating datasets on the role of geology in public education in different European countries;
– Collecting information and creating datasets on education in geology at higher education level in different European countries (number of students, curricula, learning outcomes, employment, etc);
– Preparing proposals or taking part in international projects related to education in earth sciences;
– Organizing outreach activities related to geology (Geology Day, Conference on earth sciences for secondary-school students);
– Taking part in the organisations of e-courses by EFG;
– Preparing advisory documents to the EC on educational questions.

Launch of EFG Policy Manifesto: Geology’s Vital Contribution to European Competitiveness
– Participation in the Erasmus+ TRiPGiFT project.
– Mapping the geology in public education in Europe. The survey is available online at the following link.
– Preparing a brochure for young professionals about the general requirements for working as geologists in Europe.
– European Friendly Rock Network project which is associated with school students 12-18 years old and established to raise young people’s awareness of geosciences and nature, increase the schools’ (teachers’/students’) knowledge on the geology and heritage of the region they inhabit and to increase the pedagogical quality of their rock sample collection.
– Cooperation with the EGU Field Officer Network.
– Proposal for a recommendation on ‘Environmental sustainability – education and training’ supporting the initiative of the European Commission on Education for Environmental Sustainability (May 2021).
