EFG and EAGE are delighted to announce the winners of the 2022 edition of the “Legends of Geoscience” Photo Contest.

The 2022 “Legends of Geoscience” title is awarded to Asonkey Alexander, with his photo “Geological terrain in Jamestown Ghana” taken in Accra, Ghana.

Asonkey took the photograph in December 2021, on a class field trip to Jamestown, behind the Christianborg castle Accra to study the sedimentary formations.

First prize: “Geological terrine in Jamestown Ghana ” by Asonkey Alexander.

“What inspired me to capture this photograph is the zeal I get from the beauty of the environment. I’m always inquisitive about every piece of the nature world”. (Asonkey Alexander)

The second and third places went to Martha Papadopoulou, for her photo “Melting the secrets of rocks”, taken in Leicester, United Kingdom and Manuel Regueiro for “Lava flows in La Palma volcanic eruption 2021” from La Palma Island, Spain, respectively.

Third prize: “Lava flows in La Palma volcanic eruption 2021” by Manuel Regueiro. 

The prize for the winner, Asonkey Alexander, is a three-credit education package that can be redeemed with any available EAGE online courses of his choice. The second and third places receive a complimentary registration to join one of EAGE’s Interactive Online Short Courses.

The 12 finalist photos will be featured in the EAGE/EFG 2023 calendar and in an online StoryMap published later this year.
