Mineral Exploration via Satellite Remote Sensing

This seminar explains the use of remote sensing and remotely sensed data in mineral exploration and in geology. The basic principles of satellite remote sensing will be explained in the mineral exploration context.  A general approach in mineral exploration will be adapted in satellite remote sensing with several techniques especially in metallic mineral exploration. Basic techniques in identifying the mineral assemblages in different types of mineralization have all been studied with different satellites, sensors and systems over more than 4 decades. This seminar also deals with the satellite systems, their capabilities, techniques and applications on mineral exploration.
With this seminar, the participant/user will be aware of what remote sensing is, of a very brief history on how and why this instrument has been developed, of the components of remote sensing, and of the application of satellite image processing techniques in different minerals, detection limits, statistical techniques and comparing the advantages and disadvantages of both satellite images and the detection techniques.
