IESO 2026

August 20 @ 8:00 am - August 27 @ 6:00 pm

The European Federation of Geologists (EFG) is pleased to support the 19th International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO 2026), taking place from 20 to 27 August 2026 in Turin, Italy.

Hosted by the University of Turin, IESO is the world’s leading international competition in Earth sciences for secondary school students, bringing together national teams from more than 40 countries. Over eight days, participants will test their knowledge and practical skills through theoretical and laboratory examinations, international field investigations, and collaborative research projects, while exploring some of Italy’s most remarkable geological sites.

The programme combines academic excellence with international collaboration, covering disciplines including geology, geophysics, meteorology, oceanography, terrestrial astronomy, and environmental sciences. Alongside the competitions, students and mentors will take part in cultural activities, networking opportunities, and field excursions across the Piedmont region.

EFG participates as a supporting organisation. The event is led by Prof. Susanna Occhipinti, Chair of IESO 2026 and a member of the EFG Advisory Board serving as Student & Early Careers Advisor. EFG President David Govoni will also participate in the event, delivering a speech on behalf of the Federation.
