16th IAGOD Quadrennial Symposium 2026

The European Federation of Geologists (EFG) is pleased to support the 16th IAGOD Quadrennial Symposium, held from August 30 to September 2, 2026, in Porto, Portugal.

Organised by the International Association on the Genesis of Ore Deposits (IAGOD), the symposium will bring together geoscientists from around the world for a programme combining scientific sessions, field trips, workshops and networking opportunities.

Under the theme “The Role of Geoscience in the Energy Transition,” the event will explore the contribution of geoscience to the evolving energy landscape and provide a platform for sharing research, exchanging ideas and discussing emerging developments in the field.

Participants will also have the opportunity to join field trips and workshops taking place before and after the main symposium, alongside a social programme designed to encourage professional exchange and collaboration.

The symposium will also feature an Early Career Geoscientists’ Programme, an initiative designed for students and early career geoscientists to network and build connections and partnerships for the future. These activities have no cost for participants and are sponsored by the Portuguese Association of Geologists (APG), the European Federation of Geologists (EFG), the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS), and IAGOD.
