The course will bring up the background for the classification and explain how UNFC works. The issues of Quality assurance, aggregation of projects, accounting and disclosure are dealt with. Emphasis is put on demonstrating the relationship between the UNFC and aligned classifications that are bridged to it.
The aligned systems dealt with in the course are the CRIRSCO Template for Minerals and the PR|V15 for Petroleum. The course will further focus on the use of UNFC for the four main purposes: Resource studies (for policy formulation), resources management functions, corporate business processes, and financial reporting standards. The application of the UNFC to other energy resources, like renewable energy and geothermal energy, as well as for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) for geological storage will also be dealt with. Several case studies will be used, including a petroleum field and a national petroleum portfolio, a CCS case study, a geothermal energy case study, and several raw material case studies.
The course will explain the United Nations Framework Classification for Resources (UNFC) in the context of resource management and how it can help govemments, industry and financiers to navigate through the radical reforms that follow from the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Accord on Climate Change.
