The European Federation of Geologists (EFG) is proud to announce its participation in the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), which will take place from 10 to 21 November 2025 in Belém, Brazil. For those unable to attend in person, EFG will also offer opportunities to join sessions and discussions online. EFG will be represented by President David Govoni and Global Ambassador Maureen Gallagher.
Our Mission at COP 30
At COP 30, EFG will highlight the critical contributions of geoscientists to climate action. Our delegation aims to:
-
Advocate for the vital role of geologists in climate adaptation and resilience;
-
Promote responsible management of Earth’s natural resources;
-
Support the global transition toward clean energy and green technologies; and
-
Strengthen international collaboration and knowledge exchange within the geoscience community and beyond.
Why Geologists Matter
Geologists are at the heart of understanding how our planet works. From exploring sustainable mineral resources and managing groundwater, to assessing carbon storage and mitigating natural hazards, their work underpins nearly every aspect of climate and environmental policy.
By integrating geoscientific knowledge into decision-making, we can ensure that climate strategies are both effective and sustainable – protecting communities and ecosystems while supporting innovation and growth.
EFG’s Focus at COP 30
EFG will return to COP for the third time to continue building bridges between science and society. In Belém, our activities will focus on engaging youth and indigenous communities in dialogue, learning, and action.
These activities will share proven approaches to communicating science in ways that inform and inspire climate decision-makers worldwide.
Key Events and Participation
Throughout COP 30, EFG will participate in several pavilion events featuring experts, young scientists, and community leaders. Highlights include:
