The scientific theme and tracks for the 6th International Professional Geology Conference (IPGC) have been published. Under the theme “Geosciences: Resources, Risks and Resilience”, the conference will explore how geoscience can help address global challenges, including the energy transition, critical raw materials, climate change, natural hazards, water security and sustainable infrastructure.

The conference will take place from 15 to 17 October 2027 in Hammamet, Tunisia, and is co-organised by the European Federation of Geologists (EFG) and the Association for Geophysics, Geosciences, and Environment (AGGE) – Tunisia.

The conference is open to researchers, professionals, practitioners and decision-makers from across the geosciences, who will exchange knowledge, experience and perspectives through a scientific programme organised around 15 tracks covering fundamental and applied geosciences, geo-energy, environmental geoscience, Earth observation, artificial intelligence and digital geosciences, geoheritage, policy and education, among other areas:

T1 — Fundamental Geosciences, Geodynamics and Earth System Dynamics

Research into the processes, materials and systems that shape the Earth, from geological time scales to present-day Earth system dynamics.

T2 — Applied Geophysics and Subsurface Characterisation

Geophysical methods, technologies and applications for understanding, imaging and monitoring the subsurface.

T3 — Hydrogeology, Water Resources, Water Security, and Climate Change

Groundwater systems, water resources, hydrogeological modelling and the role of geoscience in responding to changing climate and water availability.

T4 — Energy Transition, Geo-Energy, and Subsurface Resources

Geothermal energy, subsurface energy systems, carbon capture and storage, natural hydrogen production, hydrogen storage, energy resources and the contribution of geoscience to the energy transition.

T5 — Mineral Resources, Critical Raw Materials, and Responsible Mining

Mineral exploration, resource assessment, responsible mining, critical raw materials, resource security and innovative approaches to mineral supply.

T6 — Environmental Geosciences, Contamination, Remediation, and Ecosystem Sustainability

Environmental assessment, soil and sediment, remediation, ecosystem processes and the contribution of Earth sciences to sustainable environmental management.

T7 — Natural Hazards, Risk Assessment, Societal Resilience, and Climate Adaptation

Geological hazards, risk assessment, monitoring, prevention and strategies for strengthening resilience to natural and climate-related hazards.
