Content of the course:
13th September – Fieldtrip: Introduction and excursions
14th September – Conference day: Raw Material projects in Germany and Europe
15th September – Short Course: A practical introduction to geochemical exploration targeting using exploratory data analysis
About the short course (15th Sept): This short course will introduce basic concepts of geochemical exploration targeting and will provide the necessary skills for exploration and mining geologists to work with large surface or drillhole geochemical datasets. After a short introduction to the principles of primary and secondary geochemical dispersion, key exploration sampling techniques will be introduced, supported by global industry examples from soil, stream sediment and drilling campaigns. In addition, basic and advanced geochemical data ‘crunching’ techniques will be introduced in the context of interpreting element associations and lithogeochemical populations, relevant to identifying mineral systems. The acquired knowledge will be solidified by a practical ioGas software demonstration and exercise using stream sediment data from a European metallogenic province.
