The European Federation of Geologists (EFG) has launched an open call for a Coordinator and Members to join its newly established Working Group on Geotechnics. Interested professionals are invited to apply by 27 November 2026.

The call follows the decision of the EFG Council in Zaragoza in November 2025 to restructure its expert groups, replacing some of its Panels of Experts with more flexible, topic-oriented Working Groups. This new structure aims to strengthen collaboration, encourage wider participation and support the implementation of EFG’s strategic priorities.

The Working Group on Geotechnics offers an opportunity for professionals to contribute their expertise, exchange knowledge and help shape EFG’s activities in this field.

Roles and Responsibilities

EFG is seeking motivated individuals to contribute as Working Group Coordinator or Members.

Working Group Members will support the implementation of EFG’s strategy within the thematic area through:

  • Participation in Working Group meetings, expected to take place quarterly.
  • Active involvement in activities aligned with the annual work plan and emerging priorities.

The Working Group Coordinator will be responsible for:

  • Coordinating Working Group activities and meetings.
  • Providing strategic input and maintaining regular communication with the EFG Board and Secretariat.
  • Developing annual objectives and deliverables.
  • Facilitating collaboration among members from different professional backgrounds.

The Coordinator will serve under a volunteer agreement and receive a 20% discount on all EFG Academy courses throughout their mandate.

Who Can Apply?

The call is open to all qualified and motivated individuals, including professionals who are not holders of the European Geologist (EurGeol) title.

EFG particularly encourages applications from individuals of diverse professional backgrounds, geographical regions, ages and genders.

Previous experience with EFG, an EFG National Association, relevant organisations, or research and professional projects is beneficial but not mandatory.

English will be the working language, while additional language skills will be considered an asset. Applicants should indicate their language proficiency according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

How to Apply

Interested candidates are invited to submit the following documents:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Motivation letter outlining their experience, interest and suitability for the Coordinator or Member role
  • Declaration of language competences according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)

Applications and nominations should be sent to info.efg@eurogeologists.eu by 27 November 2026.

EFG encourages interested professionals to apply, nominate suitable candidates and share this opportunity across the wider geoscience community.
