Geothermal District Heating and Cooling Days 2023

19th September 2023 @ 8:00 am - 21st September 2023 @ 5:00 pm

Both, district heating (and cooling) and geothermal energy offer vital options to decarbonize the heating and cooling sector and reduce the dependency on energy imports in Europe. Although these concepts have a long tradition of use in Europe, they still cover a niche with a significant potential for market growth in the upcoming years.

The Geothermal District Heating and Cooling Days 2023 organized by the European Geothermal Energy Council (EGEC), VIA University College (Aarhus) as local organizer, the EU COST Action Geothermal-DHC and the EU Horizon Europe project SAPHEA, will introduce a new European event aiming to interconnect science, industry, and policy at different geographical levels. The Geothermal District Heating and Cooling Days address the full spectrum of geothermal energy integration from ultra-low temperature (5G) to conventional heating (and cooling networks) as well as combined heat and power applications.

The Geothermal District Heating and Cooling Days 2023 will take place between 19 and 21 September in Aarhus / Denmark, a European hot spot on district heating use at its step into geothermal district heating and cooling. The event will host the following main activities:

  • 19 September, afternoon – Pre-conference workshop on legal and financial challenges related to geothermal energy use in heating and cooling network
  • 20 September (full day) – conference hosting sessions on policies, market trends, business models and technological innovations to improve the use of geothermal energy in heating and cooling networks
  • 21 September – Full-day field trip to existing and currently developed geothermal heating and cooling networks in and around Aarhus

The Geothermal District Heating and Cooling Days 2023 address researchers, communities, industry, financial & insurance companies, public bodies as well as policymakers.
