The European Federation of Geologists (EFG) and the International Association of Mathematical Geosciences (IAMG) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2025 to formalise their commitment to cooperation and mutual support.
The IAMG promotes international cooperation in the application of mathematics to geological research and technology. Its activities include organising scientific meetings, field excursions, and visits to research centres, as well as publishing work on mathematical applications in the geosciences. The association also collaborates with other organisations involved in applying mathematics and statistics to the earth, biological, environmental, engineering, and planetary sciences.
The agreement sets out a broad framework for collaboration, including joint efforts in skills development and professional recognition, cooperation in organising events and conferences, sharing technical knowledge and resources to benefit their respective memberships, and enhanced strategic outreach, among other areas.
This partnership represents a significant step towards advancing the shared objectives of the geoscience and mathematical geoscience communities at an international level.
