#EFGinclusion Campaign #9:
Today, as part of the #EFGinclusion campaign, we want to showcase the key contribution of women who participated as panellists or speakers in the event ‘Geology for a Safe, Secure, and Sustainable Europe’ on 21 November.
Organised by the European Federation of Geologists (EFG) at the European Parliament, the event emphasised the vital role of geosciences in addressing Europe’s most pressing challenges, including climate change, sustainable resource management, and economic growth.
Women leaders brought invaluable perspectives, underscoring how role models inspire inclusion and drive systemic change in male-dominated fields like geoscience. Female geoscience experts not only delivered impactful messages but also set an example for younger professionals, demonstrating the importance of representation in decision-making roles.
EFG Delegate Maria Tzima, President of the Association of Greek Geologists who participated in the roundtable ‘Climate change, environment and natural hazards’, stated during the event: ‘Today is a special occasion for us. We are in the heart of Brussels, in the European Parliament to talk about geology. This is very important to highlight the role of professional geologists for sustainable environment because geologists can play a crucial role for energy, water management and, sectors that are crucial for economy and for the society.’
