From 30 to 31 May 2017, the GKZ (Russian State Commission of Mineral Reserves) celebrated its 90th anniversary with a well organised international conference on “The Problems of Expert Evaluation of Mineral Reserves in the Light of Cooperation with International Classifications”. The conference was co-organized by the EurAsian Union of Experts in Subsoil in Subsurface Management (EUES), a Russian professional organisation of geologists and the youngest member of the EFG. More than 500 guests from the Russian and international mining and petroleum world were invited.

Michael Neumann, the EFG Vice-president, gave two presentations on the “European Federation of Geologists and the Concept of the European Geologist” and “The Requirements and the Role of a Competent Person in Reporting Mineral Resources and Reserves”.

The main topic of the conference and of the many fruitful discussions around the presentations were the change from the traditional resource / reserve classification and reporting methods in Russia to the new standards and codes following CRIRSCO/PERC, PRMS, UNFC and the role of the experts / competent persons in the future system.

The Russian organisation team and our partners from EUES deserve congratulations and thanks for the excellent organization and the warm hospitality.
