Antonis Angelopuolos
– Diploma di Laurea in Geology–Geophysics in 1974 with honors from the University of Naples Italy, Ferdinando II .
– Post Graduate studies in 1981 at the University of Toronto Canada in Geophysics Mineral Economics as United Nation fellow.
– Candidate for PhD at the University of Athens, Geology and Geoenvironment Dpt.
– Deputy (MP) for the parliamentary elections of September 2015 included in the List of the candidates by the Democratic Cooperation party.
– Senior Advisor for Mineral and Oil Resources for the period 2010- January 2015 to the competent Vice Minister and Ministers of Environment Energy and Climate Change Ministry. During this period, he was member of the Following Ministry committees: For amending the legal framework, granting oil exploration and production permits, establishing the licensing agency as well as for assessing and negotiating the offers for the non-exclusive offshore seismic survey and the open door licensing tender. Finally, for the preparation and launching the 2nd International Tender for granting exploration & production permits for 20 offshore for three onshore blocks under the direct expression of companies as well as for the transposition of the offshore safety EU directive and the revision of the Code governing the Mining Operations.
- Presently Employ as senior Geoscientist by the Athens Water and Sewerage Company EYDAP S.A since 2000(water sector), advisor to the General Director for Water Supply.
Employed by the Institute for Geology and Mineral Exploration (IGME) 1976-2000 involved in most of the exploration projects towards the assessment of the Mineral Potential of the Country as well at the design of significant Public Infrastructures (i.e. the earth dam in western Greece at Evinos River aiming to provide additional water to Athens in 1998 during the water crisis of Athens at the time).
He has served as project scientist, project leader, scientific advisor to the General Director, Deputy Director of Geophysical dpt as well as task leader of projects financed by E.U (i.e. Geonickel Greece, France, Finland, Italy). Antonis Angelopoulos worked out the participation of the Geological Survey of Greece (IGME) in two European importance projects coordinated and implemented by GETECH at the time subsidiary of University of Leeds U.K. The West East Gravity and Eastern Europe Aeromagnetic map projects financed by Oil and Mining major companies and participated as National Expert in all phases.
He promoted the Unification of the potential maps of Greece, Albania and Bulgaria and was involved for the elaborated the data with the respective experts of the involved countries leading consequently to the compilation of the respective cross border maps in projects financed from EU after the end of the cold war. The connection of the 1rst order gravity network of Albania to the international one through Greece was one of the products of those projects.
Mr. Angelopoulos Served as member of the board of Directors, Vice President & Managing Director of the former National oil companies and its subsidiaries DEP S.A, DEP EKY S.A , EKO S.A.(1982-89/1993-96) (Presently belonging to the semi privatized Hellenic Petroleum S.A). He is a hydrocarbon expert to European Community 1986-89 and rapporteur of the Congress for the New Technologies for Hydrocarbons of the Energy Directorate and Past Vice President of the Geotechnical Chamber-Athens Section (The licensing body for Geologists).
Antonis Angelopoulos has been Member of the board, treasurer, of AGG (1976-1978) re-elected in 1981 and President of the Association of Greek Geologists 2002-2014. During his presidency, many pending professional issues affecting the exercise of the profession were solved positively. The most important issue was the case raised, to the Supreme Court of the state for civil disputes, against the professional rights of geologists for compiling and signing and supervising geotechnical studies, reports and works. AGG and the Geotechnical chamber succeeded to win the case with the support of EFG and the talented lowers involved.
National delegate to the European Federation of Geologists 2002-2016. In his career as scientist and delegate fought for upgrading the role and the professional rights of the Greek Geologists opening again the window to Europe. Once president of AGG in 2002 AGG became again full member of EFG (from the dormant status) and as National Delegate played a significant role in modernizing EFG’s procedures during the presidency of Istvan Berczi. With EFG he organized the Congress for the water policies in Athens before the transposition of the respective water directive of EU in Greece and other European Countries.
He participated as invited speaker and lecturer in thematic Congresses related to Row Materials and Oil resources, Water Policies, Environment and Infrastructures organized from third parties i.e. Technical chamber of Greece, Association of Greek Mining Companies, Universities et other. In October of 2012 organized the first Congress concerning the Oil exploration activities in western Greece after the agreed concessions in the area and few days before the initiation of the Acquisition of nonexclusive seismic data in Ionian and South Crete seas.
He lectured in the Graduate course for assessing and repairing historic buildings and monuments leaded by Prof. Tonia Moropoulou. He introduced the use of Georadar in the assessment and repair of infrastructures such as Historic buildings and Monuments in collaboration with the Department of Chemical Engineers of the National Technical University of Athens. The method then was tested successfully in Agia Sophia in Constantinopolis (Istanbul) for detecting the covered golden mosaics within an Erasmus project leaded by Prof. Tonia Moropoulou.
He also participated in the final stages of the project for the restoration of the Santo Sepolcro of Jesus in Jerusalem leaded in all phases by Prof Tonia Moropoulou. (Georadar was one of the main methods used for scanning the walls of the Santo Sepolcro for the Consequent restoration). During his presidency in Collaboration with the Geological Society of Greece, the University of Athens and the Geotechnical Chamber were organized thematic lectures and congresses to promote the profession and advising accordingly the National Institutions and Government for all its dimensions.
He played crucial role (with at the time President of AGG Kostas Rigas) for the admition of the Members of the Association of the Greek Geologists as members of the Geotechnical Chamber of Greece in the mid 80’s. This action lead to the Concession of Professional rights to Greek Geologists following the presidential decree by the year 2000, for the first time. Greek professional Geologists were equipped though with the needed certification for the establishment of their career as Dependantand Free Entrepreneurs.
In his career compiled a considerable number of technical reports and published scientific papers in Greece and abroad.
