SUMMARY:IESO 2026
DESCRIPTION:The European Federation of Geologists (EFG) is pleased to support the 19th International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO 2026)\, taking place from 20 to 27 August 2026 in Turin\, Italy. \nHosted by the University of Turin\, IESO is the world’s leading international competition in Earth sciences for secondary school students\, bringing together national teams from more than 40 countries. Over eight days\, participants will test their knowledge and practical skills through theoretical and laboratory examinations\, international field investigations\, and collaborative research projects\, while exploring some of Italy’s most remarkable geological sites. \nThe programme combines academic excellence with international collaboration\, covering disciplines including geology\, geophysics\, meteorology\, oceanography\, terrestrial astronomy\, and environmental sciences. Alongside the competitions\, students and mentors will take part in cultural activities\, networking opportunities\, and field excursions across the Piedmont region. \nEFG participates as a supporting organisation. The event is led by Prof. Susanna Occhipinti\, Chair of IESO 2026 and a member of the EFG Advisory Board serving as Student & Early Careers Advisor. EFG President David Govoni will also participate in the event\, delivering a speech on behalf of the Federation. \nFor more information and registration details\, please visit: www.ieso2026-to.com

SUMMARY:16th IAGOD Quadrennial Symposium 2026
DESCRIPTION:The European Federation of Geologists (EFG) is pleased to support the 16th IAGOD Quadrennial Symposium\, held from August 30 to September 2\, 2026\, in Porto\, Portugal. \nOrganised by the International Association on the Genesis of Ore Deposits (IAGOD)\, the symposium will bring together geoscientists from around the world for a programme combining scientific sessions\, field trips\, workshops and networking opportunities. \nUnder the theme “The Role of Geoscience in the Energy Transition\,” the event will explore the contribution of geoscience to the evolving energy landscape and provide a platform for sharing research\, exchanging ideas and discussing emerging developments in the field. \nParticipants will also have the opportunity to join field trips and workshops taking place before and after the main symposium\, alongside a social programme designed to encourage professional exchange and collaboration. \nThe symposium will also feature an Early Career Geoscientists’ Programme\, an initiative designed for students and early career geoscientists to network and build connections and partnerships for the future. These activities have no cost for participants and are sponsored by the Portuguese Association of Geologists (APG)\, the European Federation of Geologists (EFG)\, the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS)\, and IAGOD. Further details on the mentoring programme are available at the following link: https://iagod2026.inporto.events/mentoring-program.html \nDate: 30 August–2 September 2026\nLocation: Faculty of Sciences\, University of Porto\, Porto\, Portugal\nOrganiser: International Association on the Genesis of Ore Deposits (IAGOD)
