SUMMARY:9th Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) General Assembly
DESCRIPTION:The 9th Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) General Assembly will take place from 3 to 5 June 2026 in Budapest\, Hungary. Organised by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts in collaboration with HungaroMet Hungarian Meteorological Service\, this flagship annual event brings together researchers\, data providers\, service users\, EU institutions and partner organisations to reflect on the current state of European climate services and shape their future direction. \nThis year’s programme is structured around three thematic areas: authoritative climate knowledge\, including reanalyses\, monitoring and projections; enabling access to climate data through tools\, training and user workflows; and translating climate information into real-world decision-making and policy impact. The event will feature plenary presentations\, poster sessions\, breakout discussions and side meetings\, alongside a networking dinner on 4 June. \nRegistration is free of charge and open to all participants. Priority for on-site attendance will be given to C3S service providers and users\, with the deadline for on-site registration set for 25 May 2026. Participants interested in presenting a poster on-site are invited to express their interest by 6 April 2026. \nThe European Federation of Geologists will be represented at the event by Tamas Miklovicz\, Academy Manager and Project Officer.

SUMMARY:Seequent Webinar: Making Tailings Storage Facilities Safer – The Critical Role of the Geologist
DESCRIPTION: Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs) are among the most critical geotechnical structures in the mining sector\, and their safety relies heavily on strong geological understanding. \nAs part of the strategic collaboration between the European Federation of Geologists (EFG) and Seequent\, this free webinar will explore the critical role geologists play in improving tailings management and supporting safer mining practices. \nThe session will examine current challenges in TSF management\, including subsurface uncertainty\, evolving tailings properties\, and the integration of geological and geotechnical analysis. Participants will also gain insights into how integrated digital workflows\, subsurface data interpretation\, and 3D geological modelling can strengthen collaboration between geologists and engineers while supporting more informed and accountable decision-making. \nThe webinar will be led by Khaled Zahran\, a geotechnical and tailings specialist at Seequent with international experience in tailings dams\, civil infrastructure\, and ground improvement projects. \nDate: 10 June 2026Time: 14:30–15:00 CEST \nEuropean Geologist (EurGeol) title holders can obtain 0.25 CPD points under the category of informal learning/training category by attending the full webinar.
