SUMMARY:Centennial Celebration and Congress of the International Union of Soil Sciences
DESCRIPTION:The custodian of soil science will celebrate its centennial contribute to the nature and human wellbeing in 2024.\nThe event will also empower the linkages with different disciplines\, policy makers\, stakeholders\, institutions\, and associations to effectively address civil society needs within agriculture\, forestry\, environment\, urban planning\, energy\, education\, and other societal issues.\nThe celebration will occur on May 19th and will be followed by two intense days of congress\, with plenary and parallel scientific sessions. Both soil scientists and specialists from other disciplines will participate to each session\, focusing on past achievements and future challenges.\nThe congress will be followed by technical/scientific excursions that will range from short local to long trips\, spanning from Alps to Sicily.\nA pre-congress visit to Villa Lubin in Rome\, the historical place where the IUSS was founded\, is scheduled on May 18th.

DESCRIPTION:The Global Geoscience Professionalism Group is a follow-up initiative of the former IUGS Task Group on Global Geoscience Professionalism (“TG-GGP”).\nFormed by the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) at the 34th International Geological Congress in Brisbane\, Australia\, in August 2012\, the Task Group provided a single global forum for interchange on professional affairs in geoscience worldwide. Its main purpose was to ensure that geoscientists\, active in all areas of geoscience\, are fully engaged in the transformation of their profession – a profession that is increasingly relied upon by the public to provide expert opinions and service\, and to safeguard the public interest.\nEFG is a founding member of the new Global Geoscience Professionalism Group and actively participates in all meetings and activities.

DESCRIPTION:The Institute of Geologists of Ireland (IGI) are excited to announce their 2024 conference around the theme of Climate and Sustainability on 23 May and 24 May 2024. Geoscientists play a crucial role in addressing climate change and promoting sustainability through their interdisciplinary approach to understanding the Earth’s systems. \nThe objective of the conference is to showcase how the geoscientist has responded to sectoral changes in Energy\, Hydrogeology\, Contaminated Land and Minerals to assist in developing and managing sustainability and circularity within these industries. \nThe Conference will touch on the following topics: \n• Storage potential and technologies\n• Flood and environmental insurance risk\n• The EU Taxonomy Environmental Sustainability Classification system\n• EU Mineral Requirements\n• Mine Rehabilitation\n• Planning Legislative reform\n• Environmental Licensing reform \nThe conference will run over 2 days including a workshop on the Friday afternoon.
