SUMMARY:SMART MONITORING: Automatic Monitoring Systems for Linear and Geotechnical Infrastructures
DESCRIPTION:This course is endorsed by EFG. \n \nContent and objectives of the course: \nThe main objectives are to address Automatic Monitoring Systems\, within the scope of geotechnical risk management\, and to provide trainees with the knowledge and skills necessary to develop automatic instrumentation plans and implement instrumentation systems. This course is aimed at professionals in the area of geology\, geological engineering\, mining engineering and civil engineering\, recent graduates or with some professional experience who may not have had contact with this area of activity or who wish to recycle the concepts previously acquired. \nYou can find further information and get registered on the APG webpage: http://bit.ly/3kPCbyk \nPlease note that the course will be held in Portuguese. \n1 – Definitions and general concepts (1h30)\n• Instrumentation and monitoring for geotechnical risk management;\n• Concepts – risk management (risk identification\, risk management\, risk mitigation)\, observational method\, instrumentation\, monitoring\, information circuit\, contingency measures\, maintenance\, intervention;\n• Principles of an instrumentation plan (selection of equipment type\, equipment quantities\, frequency of readings\, warning and alarm levels\, contingency measures)\n• Linear works (railwaylines and highways) including slopes\, embankments\, viaducts and tunnels\nTraining provider details\nCourse details\nApplication for course endorsement\n2 – Vibration Wire equipment (1h30) – extensometers\, load cells\, straingages\, pressure cells\, pressure cells.\n3 – Electrical equipment and accelerometers (0h45) – potentiometers\, load cells\, strain gauges\, accelerometers (tiltmeters\, geophones\, relative deformation).\n4 – Data acquisition systems (0h45)\n• Cable acquisition systems;\n• Short range wireless acquisition systems;\n• Long range wireless acquisition systems.\n5- Fiber optic equipment (0h45)\n• Point Sensors System (Fabry-Pérot);\n• Multiplexed system;\n• Long Base Sensor System;\n• Distributed System.\n6 – Satellite Monitoring (0h45)\n• Possibility of historical verification;\n• Large spatial scope.\n7 –Automatic instrumentation plan and its value – part 1: planning before measuring (1h30)\n• Designing and implementing an instrumentation program for an excavation slope;\n• Designing and implementing an instrumentation program for a landfill or embankment.\n8 – Automatic instrumentation plan and its value – part 2: planning before measuring (1h30)\n• Designing and implementing an instrumentation program for a flyover;\n• Designing and implementing an instrumentation program for a tunnel.\n9 – Measure to Control (1h30)\n• Implementation of the instrumentation system (installation)\n• Online data presentation platforms\n• Analysis of results\n• Verification of the design assumptions\n10 – Visit to a work site with automatic instrumentation (1h30) \nDates of the course: \nOnline: 11\, 12\, 13\, 17\, 18\, 19 and 20 April 2023 – 18:00 to 19:30\nTechnical visit: 21 April 2023 \nRegistration fees: \nAPG Members and EurGeol title holders – 150€\nNon-Members – 250€\nAPG Student Members – 90€\nStudent Non-Members – 120€

SUMMARY:Space Resources Week
DESCRIPTION:The space resources community in growing and this is clear from the increasing number of contributors and participants we have seen attending our Space Resources Week events since 2018. The Space Resources Week 2022 attracted 300 people on-site in Luxembourg and close to 700 people online. \nThe next edition of Space Resources Week will take place between 19 and 21 April 2023 as a 3-day hybrid conference connecting thought leaders from space agencies\, research institutes\, start-ups\, and industry (both terrestrial and space). \nDuring this year’s event we will focus on the synergies required for the development of an inclusive space resources utilization ecosystem\, as well as on ways of accelerating the use of space for the benefit of humankind. \nYou can expect a series of captivating speeches and interactive sessions on new technologies\, business models and concrete next steps\, from inspiring scientists\, economists\, lawyers\, and business professionals. The event is focused on drawing a clear path between key actors\, based on an interconnected approach aimed at sustained and sustainable activities beyond Earth. \nWith this annual event\, we aim to bring together our multidisciplinary community to exchange and identify opportunities for synergy across the truly dynamic field of space resources. \nEFG is a media partner of this event.
