SUMMARY:MDNP Webinar: The role of copper in the clean energy and digital transition
DESCRIPTION:Copper plays a leading role in the EU’s transition to a climate-neutral and digital economy. Several EU initiatives focused on renewable energy\, sustainable infrastructure and green transportation require the sustainable supply of a wide range of raw materials including copper. \nDuring the webinar\, participants will gain insight into the role of copper in the green economy and gain knowledge about investment opportunities\, traceability and other challenges along the value chain. \nThe webinar will facilitate exchanges at the forefront of this field and stimulate discussion on how the EU transition to a climate-neutral economy can set the basis for value chain integration between the EU and Latin America\, outlining opportunities for common action. \nThe webinar will bring together EU and Latin American authorities\, regional industry and business representatives\, academia\, geological surveys and other relevant entities\, and provide a forum to share experiences and best practices. \nWebinar registrations will close on Monday\, 12 Sep at 17:00 CEST. \nTo register\, click here: https://mineralplatform.eu/webinar/register

SUMMARY:49th IAH Congress: Groundwater Sustainability & Poverty Reduction
DESCRIPTION:The theme of the 49th IAH Congress is “Groundwater Sustainability and Poverty Reduction”. Poverty reduction is a top priority for most countries in the world. Unfortunately\, most of the poor countries and regions have been faced with serious problems of water scarcity and contamination. It is the mission and ultimate responsibility of the international community of hydrogeologists to help the people get access to sustainable safe supply of fresh groundwater. With your active participation to share your ideas\, experiences and knowledge\, this congress in China will be a great success. See you in Wuhan!

SUMMARY:15th CO2GeoNet Open Forum: ACCELERATING CCS - Transitioning from millions to billions of tonnes of stored CO2
DESCRIPTION:CO2 Capture\, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) has an essential role to play in meeting our climate targets. The Paris Agreement represents an important step towards keeping global temperature rise well below 2°C. \nFollowing on from this\, the IPCC 1.5 special report highlighted different emission pathways to limit warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels at the end of the century\, all of which require net zero CO2 emissions by around 2050. CO2 storage is a necessary part of the solution. \nThe 15th Open Forum will focus on the progress made and how we can accelerate CO2 storage to help meet climate targets. \nThe event will share experience from projects where CO2 is being stored\, highlight new projects coming onstream and look at how CO2 storage can be accelerated and upscaled to realise its role in meeting our ambitious climate goals. \nNew developments around CCUS and opportunities for the CO2 Storage community to engage and to support the business case for CO2 Capture and Storage will be presented and discussed. \n

SUMMARY:The Annual Research Conference
DESCRIPTION:Organised since 2004\, the 2022 edition of the Annual Research Conference (ARC) is co-organised by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) and the Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs (DG ECFIN). ARC is the forum of excellence where European Institutions exchange knowledge and engage in dialogue with researchers at academic institutions and think tanks\, practitioners at civil society organisations and citizens. \nThis year\, the JRC and DG ECFIN invite Conference participants to discuss how to turn green the European way: keeping cutting the edge while remaining social and fair. \nConference participants shall listen to speakers discuss different aspects of a successful green transition and address questions on \n\nhow to design appropriate policies and instruments to incentivize a green transition;\nhow to change production and consumption patterns;\nhow to engineer the necessary private and public investment/technological transformation\, and\nhow to bring about the necessary innovation and human capital accumulation.\n\nAll this\, while at the same time preserving social cohesion and the cohesion of the EU. \nThe conference is hybrid (online and physical).

SUMMARY:CCS4G Symposium 2022 – Super Critical Connections (Co-located event)
DESCRIPTION:A symposium on Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) for Geoscientists \nIn many ways the CCS world with its wells\, reservoirs and sealing cap-rocks will be familiar to PESGB members. However\, in other ways it will be quite different. The twin necessities of driving costs down and ensuring long-term public safety will demand collaboration and openness like never before. \nIn response to demand from the PESGB membership\, we have scheduled this one-day symposium on the geoscience aspects of geological CO2 storage. The conveners are soliciting oral presentations from industry experts to meet the goal of offering deep technical insights into G&G topics pertinent to CCS. \nIf you are a petroleum-geoscientist considering ‘what next’ in a changing world\, this event is designed for you. CCS is essential in meeting the worlds Net Zero targets. The anticipated exponential growth of CCS projects worldwide will need a major effort to re-purpose skills from the oil and natural gas industry. \nOrganised by: Exploring The Energy Transition Special Interest Group\nConvenors: Kevin Dale (Sasol) & Neil Frewin (Shell)
