SUMMARY:Incentivising new circular economy business models in the context of the European Green Deal
DESCRIPTION:Circular economy features as a key priority in the European Green Deal\, which signals the new Commission’s ambition to accelerate the circular transition\, and recognises the importance of developing markets for climate neutral and circular products. \nSome key questions that need to be addressed in the coming years are the following: How can we encourage consumers and businesses to engage in circular approaches and business models? How do we create the business case and ensure consumer buy-in? Introducing the right incentives for circular economy business models and consumers will be key to achieve the circular economy potential. \nDrawing on the results of CIRC4Life\, which implements circular economy business models in different value chains\, this event aims to present examples of circular business models\, discuss barriers and enablers\, as well as how to incentivise consumers to engage with circular practices. It will include perspectives from both the private and public sector\, as well as discuss consumer preferences. \nCIRC4Life has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. \nThe Conference starts at 13:00 with registration & networking lunch.

SUMMARY:The Green transition challenged by the metal supply chain
DESCRIPTION:The current energy transition faces many challenges across the various stages of the metal supply chain (from mineral extraction to product end-of-life). On March 12\, 2020\, several EU H2020 projects and other partners team up to organise a seminar in which a high level expert panel will discuss these challenges from different perspectives (coming from the private sector\, NGO\, academia\, research institutions and international organisations). After a brief keynote\, challenges in exploitation\, processing and recycling will be analysed in the light of the EC Green Deal. Participants will further enrich the reflection during an interactive debate\, and filter out several recommendations towards the EC. The event ends with a networking reception. The event takes place on March 12\, 2020 in the Flemish Parliament in Brussels and is free of charge. Targeted participants are professionals from different sectors working on these and related topics. Registration is mandatory.

SUMMARY:6th Annual World Congress of Smart Materials-2020（WCSM-2020）
DESCRIPTION:Smart materials are one of the most important researching directions in development of High-tech new materials. Their properties can react to reversible changes in their environment by an external condition. Smart materials help in removing the boundaries between structural and functional materials\, which may result in significant revolution in materials science development. Based on its significance\, WCSM-2020 is dedicated to provide a platform to make up a dialogue between industries and academic organizations and technology transfer from research to industry. \nWCSM-2020 plans to shoot for 300+ oral presentations in breaking research of Smart Materials Science and Technologies. 500+ world-renowned experts\, academicians\, senior scientists\, industry executives and project leaders from 40+ countries will get together to address the topics\, issues\, best practices and trends necessary to make the right decisions to guide their business strategies\, and future science and technology direction. Meanwhile\, it provides exhibition opportunities for industries to showcase their products and services with Smart Materials Science applications.

SUMMARY:Energy transition in sub-Saharan Africa: Advances in Education\, Innovation and Research for a new generation of energy professionals for environmentally sound energy development
DESCRIPTION:Africa is at a pivotal moment in time with growing needs for energy while the world is struggling with the consequences of carbon-based energy. On one hand large reserves of oil and gas have been discovered on the continent waiting to be exploited while on the other hand the global trend is towards more sustainable and carbon-neutral energy sources. What is the best way forward? And how should education institutes at TVET and academic level train the new generation of energy professionals?\nThis conference aims to bring together national and international experts from TVET institutes\, academia\, private sector\, government and non-governmental organisations to exchange the latest developments in education\, innovation and research to secure that African nations are ready for the global energy transition\, while balancing short-term needs with a long-term strategy towards sustainable generation and use of energy.\nSpecial attention is given to make education in energy-related topics more attractive for girls and women and to ensure that labour-market demands are well-included in the design of curricula and in innovation- and research programs. \nWe invite authors from TVET institutes\, academia\, private sector\, government and nongovernmental organisations to submit abstracts on any of the themes addressed at this\nconference. \nSub-themes of the conference include but are not limited to:\n1. Education and innovation at TVET institutions with focus on:\na. Renewable Energy sources (wind\, solar\, …)\nb. Oil\, Gas and Geothermal Energy\n2. SUMMARY:Expert Forum on Digitalisation
DESCRIPTION:Exploration\, mining and mineral processing involves the collection and analysis of vast quantities of data from various scales of observation and over variable timeframes. As the digitalisation of the sector is progressing\, Artificial Intelligence (AI)\, Machine Learning (ML)\, Deep Learning (DL)\, Augmented/Virtual Reality (AR/VR) and data integration solutions are increasingly being used to collect\, analyse and manage data and to visualize content in real time in variable contexts. AI\, ML\, DL\, AR\, VR and data integration are thus the topics of the first Expert Forum of the EIT RawMaterials Sustainable Discovery and Supply Lighthouse. \nThe goal of the event is to trigger interaction among European stakeholders who work with and develop innovative digital solutions with applications in exploration\, mining and processing of minerals and metals. \nHence\, the Expert Forum is aimed at stakeholders from the raw materials sector and experts actively researching\, developing and employing digital solutions in exploration\, mining and mineral processing (aligning with the strategic outlook of the Lighthouse Sustainable Discovery and Supply) – from universities\, research & technology organisations\, major companies\, SMEs and start-ups. The event will feature a session on disruptive start-ups in the raw materials sector as well as a thesis award for outstanding MSc and PhD theses that incorporated smart and innovative digital solutions. \nWe do have sponsorship packages and booth spaces available should your organization be interested. For sponsorship opportunities please contact Sylwia Wasilewicz Crozier sylwia.wasilewicz@eitrawmaterials.eu or +48 882 149 646 directly. \nPlease be aware that there are a limited number of hotel rooms available in Leoben\, so the earlier you book your trip the better.
