SUMMARY:PharmWat2017
DESCRIPTION:International Conference on Pharmaceuticals in the water environment: waste water treatment\, surface – and groundwater\, drinking water production\, effect on ecosystems. PharmWat2017 is an international multidisciplinary conference aiming at discussing the comprehensive issue of occurrence of pharmaceutical residues in the water environment. This is done by considering the entire pathway of pharmaceutical residues from their source (human use of medicines\, agriculture\, etc.) as sewage water to waste water treatment plants releasing their effluent to surface waters and groundwater. If this water is being used as a source for drinking water production the result may be drinking water that containing pharmaceutical residues. The effect of pharmaceuticals on plant and animal life in aquatic ecosystems is also considered. \nThe conference aims to intensify contacts between professionals\, scientists\, engineers\, water managers (river basin administrators\, etc.) and policy makers involved in the fields of A wastewater treatment\, B surface waters\, C groundwater\, D drinking water supply\, E aquatic ecosystems\, and F legislation (setting water quality standards). The objectives are: \n\nto provide a forum for exchange of scientific knowledge\, research on system knowledge\, modelling\, monitoring\, laboratory analytical methods for detection of pharmaceuticals\, and uncertainty at various levels\, from the perspective of themes a);\nto intensify contacts between wastewater treatment operators and drinking water supply operators;\nto intensify contacts between scientists\, water managers (river basin administrators\, etc.) economists and policy makers;\nto intensify contacts between (a) legislation preparation bodies (e.g. at European Union)\, (b) river basin administrators\, wastewater treatment operators and (c) drinking water supply operators.\n\nAbstract submission deadline is 1 February 2017.

SUMMARY:Near Surface Geoscience 2017
DESCRIPTION:The SES conference series is a relatively new initiative and aims to bring together geoscientists working in CO2 storage\, geothermal applications\, deep earth storage solutions and related topics. To meet the challenges of present and future energy demand\, the geosciences play an increasingly important role in the sustainable use of the Earth and its resources and in the conservation of our environment. Numerous technologies (storage of gases\, geothermal\, waste disposal\, oil & gas\, mining\, etc.) use the subsurface – sometimes in synergy\, sometimes in competition. SES 2017 seeks to address these challenges and promotes the development of applied geoscience and technology with regard to sustainable use of the Earth and its limited resources.
