SUMMARY:Application of United Nations Framework Classification (UNFC) for Resource Management
DESCRIPTION:EFG Endorsement Programme \n \nThe course will bring up the background for the classification and explain how UNFC works. The issues of Quality assurance\, aggregation of projects\, accounting and disclosure are dealt with. Emphasis is put on demonstrating the relationship between the UNFC and aligned classifications that are bridged to it. \nThe aligned systems dealt with in the course are the CRIRSCO Template  for Minerals and the PR|V15 for Petroleum. The course  will further focus on the use of UNFC for the four main purposes: Resource studies (for policy formulation)\, resources management functions\, corporate business processes\, and financial reporting standards. The application of the UNFC to other energy resources\, like renewable energy and geothermal energy\, as well as for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) for geological storage will also be dealt with. Several case studies will be used\, including a petroleum field and a national petroleum portfolio\, a CCS case study\, a geothermal energy case study\, and several raw material case studies. \nThe course will  explain the  United Nations Framework Classification for Resources  (UNFC) in the context of resource management and  how it can help  govemments\, industry and financiers to navigate  through the radical reforms that follow  from the  adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris  Accord on  Climate Change. \nFEE FOR COURSE PARTICIPANTS: \nNormal: 7500 NOK (≅ 775 EUR) \nEurGeols: 7000 NOK (≅725 EUR) \nFind more information and the programme here.

SUMMARY:Exploration Geochemistry Boot Camp
DESCRIPTION:EFG Endorsement Programme \n \nThe Geochemistry Boot Camp will comprise: \n-Part 1: Geochemical Interpretation Tools for Exploration and Mining Geologists: Examples from SE Ireland\, Finland and sub-Saharan Africa – 10th -11th January 2019 \nThe motivation for this event stems from the long decline in exploration geochemistry practitioners\, and along with a worldwide lack of relevant university courses covering this essential area\, the idea of an all-encompassing (European) Exploration Geochemistry Boot Camp has been created. This event will provide participants with practical insights into exploration geology and the role of geochemistry in mineral exploration. Participants will not only learn how to work with and interpret geochemical data\, but also gain invaluable experience in hands-on aspects of survey planning\, organisation and management. The application of industry-leading software packages (ioGAS\, GIS) along with practical field skills will therefore equip participants with best practice workflows and a holistic view of mineral exploration campaigns. \nOBJECTIVES: \n-1. Provide an introduction to geochemical exploration methods\, analytical and interpretation skills as well as a general overview of early and advanced stage mineral exploration workflows \n-2. The participant will be able to gather original and other complex data from a variety of sources (fieldwork\, library\, internet and others)\, analyse and synthesise the data\, and make reasonable deductions; and\, have the ability to utilise a full range of computer-based learning resources as an autonomous learner \n-3. The participant will be able to handle data used in mining and exploration to generate information for geological and general management \nFEE FOR COURSE PARTICIPANTS: \n• Standard rate: 500\,- €\n• GSL fellows: 440\,- €\n• EurGeol title holders: 390\,- €\n• Students: 50\,- €\n\n-Part 2: Field Workshop in the Central Vosges Mountains\, NE France (6 days) – 1-6 July 2019 (TBC)\n\nEvent date: 1-6 July 2019 \nEvent location: Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines\, France. \nThe workshop aims to solidify theoretical knowledge of exploration geochemistry obtained from working in industry\, previous knowledge and/ or the Freiberg short course held in January 2019. The course runs over six days and will be based near Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines\, Central Vosges Mountains\, NE France. The study area is famous for Medieval base metal mining and has recently been recognised to potentially host Li-Cs-Ta and W deposits (Steiner\, 2019). \nWhat will you gain from attending? \n\nA greater understanding of operational aspects of mineral exploration campaigns\, logistics and planning\nAn appreciation of the ‘in’s’ and ‘out’s’ of geochemical surveys from initial planning and orientation studies to sample analysis and interpretation\nPractical skills in best practice GIS and sampling workflows\nInsight into the roles and responsibilities of field technicians\, geologists\, project and exploration managers\nA unique chance to work with colleagues from all across Europe and the possibility to network\n\nIndustry geologists and students\, who are looking into learning more about or improving their practical exploration skills\, are welcome to attend the workshop. You will receive a certificate of attendance which can be used for maintaining your professional CPD. \nRegistration fees: \n\nStandard rate:             € 1\,500.-\nGSL fellows:               € 1\,400.-\nEurGeol title holders: € 1\,350.-\nFreiberg students:      €   400.-\nExternal students:       €    350.-\n\nREGISTRATION AND MORE INFORMATION:\nContact: segfreiberg@gmail.com

SUMMARY:EWA EU Water Policy Seminar: A Guide to the EU Water Policy
DESCRIPTION:Water and the Environment have an increased impact in the European Union. According to a new Eurobarometer survey (Special Survey 416 from September 2014)\, almost all Europeans say that protecting the environment is important to them personally\, and over half say it is very important. Half or more of Europeans say that they are worried about air pollution and water pollution\, while over four in ten are worried about the impact on health from chemicals in everyday products and the growing amount of waste.  Over three-quarters of respondents feel that environmental problems have a direct effect on their daily lives. An understanding of legal basis\, context and decision-taking mechanisms are thus of increasing importance for policy makers and planners at all levels. \nThis seminar will give you  a general overview of the EU water policy. As it is an interactive seminar with the possibility to ask questions concerning the policy relating to your country in particular. Ample time is planned for discussions. \nAn understanding of legal basis\, context and decision-taking mechanisms are thus of increasing importance for policy makers and planners at all levels. \nFind more information here. \n

SUMMARY:Geochemical Interpretation Tools for Exploration and Mining Geologists: Examples from SE Ireland\, Finland and Sub-Saharan Africa
DESCRIPTION:EFG Endorsement Programme \n \nMulti-element trace geochemical surveys are a standard tool in detailed and regional geochemical exploration. Whilst in the past univariate anomaly detection along with a thorough analysis of ore element assemblages were considered routine interpretation workflows\, affordable trace element geochemistry now provides the necessary tools to interpret bedrock geology\, mineralisation systems and further applications in mining and mineral processing. \nMost governmental geological surveys make regional geochemical datasets available which are of invaluable use to exploration geologists. The Tellus SE Ireland dataset will be investigated during this workshop and implications for regional prospectivity discussed. \nFind more information here.

SUMMARY:3rd EuroWorkshop: Meggen Days of Mineral Resources
DESCRIPTION:The workshop will cover the basic principles and rules of application of United Nations Framework Classification for Resources (UNFC). UNFC provides a single framework to build global energy and mineral studies\, analyze government policies\, plan industrial processes and allocate capital efficiently. UNFC applies to minerals\, petroleum\, nuclear fuel resources\, renewable energy resources\, injection projects for geological storage of CO2\, and anthropogenic resources. UNFC helps in the efficient channeling of capital investments to regions where they are required while satisfying the social and environmental requirements. UNFC ensures that investments bring positive outcomes for society and not just profits for the companies. The workshop will also consider application examples and case studies. \nPlease find more information here.
