DESCRIPTION:The one-day event will showcase the research outcomes of iCRAG projects and deliver insights into future directions for Irish geoscience research. There will be a particular focus on how the Irish geoscience research sector can play a leading role in addressing the Climate Action Plan and Ireland’s commitments to the UN Sustainable Development Goals as the country transitions to a low carbon economy. The showcase will bring together iCRAG’s 150 researchers from across eight Irish research institutes and will consist of over 35 talks\, keynote addresses\, dedicated poster sessions and panel discussion. Registration is free via eventbrite here and the preliminary programme is available here. All updates and information will be posted on the iCRAG 2019 page on the iCRAG website here.

SUMMARY:Heraklion 2019 - 7th International conference on sustainable solid waste management
DESCRIPTION:The Conference aims to address the significant issue of sustainable solid waste management through the promotion of safe practices & effective technologies. The Conference focuses mainly on modern solid waste technologies. It aims to stimulate the interest of scientists and citizens and inform them about the latest developments in the field of municipal solid waste management. Separation at source\, Biological Treatment\, the treatment at central facilities\, waste prevention\, biowaste utilization\, recycling promotion\, Waste-to-energy technologies & energy recovery\, smart technologies for waste management\, sludge management\, agricultural and livestock waste\, management of specific waste streams(construction & demolition waste\, waste from electrical and electronic equipment\, etc.)\, biotechnology\, Best Available techniques\, symbiosis networks\, energy consumption and saving\, carbon footprint and water footprint\, zero-waste initiatives\, plastics and bioplastics\, marine litter constitute main conference subjects. Special attention will be drawn to the valorization prospects & the products from solid waste\, such as: biofuels\, compost\, materials\, etc. It is also our ambition to strengthen the link of the applied research with industry. Hazardous waste & Household hazardous waste also constitute target area of the conference. Emphasis will be placed on circular economy in all key action areas (production\, consumption\, waste management\, secondary raw materials\, innovation\, investment & monitoring) and all priority sectors (food waste\, plastics\, biomass and bio-based-products\, construction & demolition waste\, critical raw materials)\, as well as waste management issues and resource efficiency in islands and generally isolated and remote areas.

SUMMARY:Soil Classification and Education Conference
DESCRIPTION:Globalization and global environmental issues\, as well as unification of scientific research and teaching on the EU and global levels require harmonization of technical languages\, such as the terminology used in soil science. Important part of our technical language is soil description and classification. Despite the long-term development of the unified system – World Reference Base for Soil Resources (WRB)\, it is still not used by the teaching staff in Europe on a satisfactory level. National/local focus in soil sciences teaching still dominates that complicates exchange of information\, students and professionals. The aim of this conference is to present solutions for international education in soil science\, elaborated within the Erasmus+ FACES project\, to present the new attempts to soil description and classification. Participants’ experiences and thoughts related to soil science teaching would be a frame for discussions\, both indoor and outdoor ones.
