SUMMARY:12th Meggen Raw Material Days
DESCRIPTION:The European Federation of Geologists (EFG) is proud to support the 12th Meggen Raw Material Days\, an established international event bringing together geoscientists\, industry professionals\, policymakers\, and researchers to discuss current developments and challenges in the raw materials sector. \nTaking place from 15–18 September 2026 at the Town Hall of Altenhundem in Lennestadt\, Germany\, the event is organised by DIE!BA\, the Education Academy of EFG’s German national association\, the Berufsverband Deutscher Geowissenschaftler e.V. (BDG)\, in partnership with TRACTO. \nThe programme begins on 15 September with the 2nd Meggen Raw Materials Industry Round Table\, focusing on the question “Why do we need mineral raw materials?”. The discussion will explore the importance of mineral resources for industrial value chains\, the energy and mobility transition and digital technologies\, while also addressing questions around security of supply\, sustainability and public acceptance. \nThe main conference programme on 16 and 17 September will cover topics including geoethics and raw materials policy\, Germany’s national raw materials strategy\, recycling\, mining law\, exploration\, critical raw materials\, resource estimation\, transparent supply chains and new developments in the European and German mining sector. \nEFG will also contribute to the programme. Executive Director Anita Stein will present on new EU Horizon projects on 17 September. The final day\, 18 September\, will feature the full-day short course “From Science to Decisions: A Hands-On Public Affairs Lab for Geoscientists”\, led by Maureen Gallagher\, EFG Global Ambassador. The course will help geoscientists strengthen their communication\, stakeholder engagement and policy-influencing skills through practical exercises and ready-to-use communication materials. \nDiscover the complete programme\, speakers\, and registration details here. \nDate: 15–18 September 2026\nLocation: Town Hall of Altenhundem\, Lennestadt\, Germany\nRegistration deadline: 19 August 2026 \nFurther information is available at www.die-ba-bdg.de
