SUMMARY:Geofluid - drilling and Foundation Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:In 2023\, GEOFLUID celebrates 45 years of activity\, forty-five years alongside the companies and industry operators as a showcase of technological evolution and of the reference market. \nIn recent years\, the event has been steadily and gradually growing as for the exhibition offer\, with a high degree of professional qualification and internationality\, without departing from its core mission of high specialization in the area of drilling and underground works. \nThese sectors include exploration and exploitation of underground fluids\, special foundations and soil consolidation\, geological\, geophysical and geotechnical investigation. \nGeofluid today is the result of a path involving contractors\, associations\, university and research institutes\, and the strong appeal of the show towards operators confirms a well-established leadership in the reference market (not only Italian and European).\nGeofluid has become the not-to-miss trade fair for businesses and industry visitors. The 2023 edition will include further development elements to continue sharing the business of large\, medium and small businesses projected on international markets.

SUMMARY:GROUNDWATER SUMMIT
DESCRIPTION:Groundwater is invisible\, and yet its impact is visible everywhere. It is a hidden treasure that enriches our lives. Groundwater may be out of sight\, but it must not be out of mind. \nThe UN-Water Summit on Groundwater aims to bring attention to groundwater at the highest international level. The Summit will use the UN World Water Development Report 2022 as a baseline and the SDG 6 Global Acceleration Framework as a guideline to define actions towards more responsible and sustainable use and protection of this vital natural resource. The Summit will unify the statements from all major water-related events in 2021-2022 into one comprehensive groundwater message for the UN 2023 Water Conference. \nFor more information on the programme and registration\, click here: https://groundwater-summit.org/

SUMMARY:iCRAG 2022
DESCRIPTION:iCRAG 2022 provides a unique opportunity to connect\, explore and discover recent work by some of the 150 iCRAG researchers across 8 Irish research institutions\, in collaboration with over 60 industry\, academic and government partners. \nThe theme for this event\, “Making a Difference”\, encapsulates iCRAG’s commitment to creating solutions for a sustainable society. This one-day showcase will highlight the contributions iCRAG’s researchers are making to the economy\, environment\, and society in areas that include \n\nProtecting terrestrial\, groundwater and marine environments\nSustainable discovery of the raw materials required for the energy transition and development of new energy resources\nUnderstanding and informing society’s response to a changing climate and dynamic planet\n\niCRAG research in applied geosciences and understanding society’s connections with our planet is fundamental to addressing the urgent and intertwined energy and climate challenges. We are very excited to share the research being carried out across our three challenge areas: Earth System Change\, Earth Resources\, and Earth Science in Society\, supported by Platform Technologies\, and to introduce our 33 new PhD projects.

SUMMARY:EFG Webinar: Tackling the 21st Century Water Quality Challenges for Managed Aquifer Recharge
DESCRIPTION:On 15 November 2022\, the European Federation of Geologists (EFG) is organising the webinar ‘Tackling the 21st Century Water Quality Challenges for Managed Aquifer Recharge‘. The event is scheduled for 13:00 – 14:00 CET (Brussels time). \nThe presenter of the webinar will be Dr Yan Zheng\, Chair Professor at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) in Shenzhen\, China. The host of the session will be Dr Tamás Madarász\, Professor and Head of the Institute of Environmental Management at the University of Miskolc in Hungary\, and a Member of the EFG Panel of Experts on Hydrogeology. \nThe sustainability of groundwater is threatened by overexploitation and by pollution\, exacerbated by perturbations of hydrological cycle stemming from climate change exerting poorly understood water quantity and quality risks with uncertain outcomes. Managed aquifer recharge (MAR) has been shown as a sustainable nature-based engineering approach for enhancing climate resilience and other social\, economic and environmental benefits of groundwater. Yet to continue MAR implementation\, water quality and quantity challenges both need to be addressed to maintain resource integrity. This presentation discusses how MAR professionals may tackle the 21st century water quality challenges. New findings on incomplete biodegradation of antibiotics\, a type of trace organic pollutants\, will be described. Given the threat of a large number of novel chemical and biological entities\, it is suggested that groundwater monitoring programs pay more attention to them when justified\, especially when MAR is used to bank large quantities of groundwater. Policy recommendations such as demarcating a subsurface attenuation zone to continue to take advantage of the natural purification ability of the soil-aquifer systems\, and moving towards a risk-based regulatory approach for MAR under the framework of water recycling\, will be presented. \nFind more information and registration at the following link: https://bit.ly/3SGx3HH

SUMMARY:49th IAH Congress: Groundwater Sustainability & Poverty Reduction
DESCRIPTION:The theme of the 49th IAH Congress is “Groundwater Sustainability and Poverty Reduction”. Poverty reduction is a top priority for most countries in the world. Unfortunately\, most of the poor countries and regions have been faced with serious problems of water scarcity and contamination. It is the mission and ultimate responsibility of the international community of hydrogeologists to help the people get access to sustainable safe supply of fresh groundwater. With your active participation to share your ideas\, experiences and knowledge\, this congress in China will be a great success. See you in Wuhan!
