SUMMARY:Policy dialogue: Geology for a Safe\, Secure and Sustainable Europe
DESCRIPTION:Policy Dialogue \nHeld at the European Parliament in Brussels\, this meeting presents a crucial opportunity to foster dialogue between European institutions and the professional geoscience community. It aims to align on key actions and topics\, ensuring that the community is well-informed about expectations\, while also allowing geologists to present their strategic proposals for support. EFG will present its EFG Policy Manifesto for European Competitiveness. Notably\, high-level representatives\, including Presidents and/or Executive Directors from 27 geoscience National Associations\, will participate. With EFG’s extensive international partnerships\, the event will have a global impact. \nRoundtable 1 – Climate Change\, Environment and Natural Hazards \nThis roundtable will explore the critical intersection of geoscience with climate action\, environmental protection\, and natural hazards (prevention). It will start by highlighting key EU policies and ongoing initiatives from different perspectives. Discussions will then shift to the role of geosciences in mitigating climate change impacts\, with a focus on land management\, hydrogeology\, soil preservation\, and waste management. The session will conclude with an exchange of ideas for improvement and better engagement. \nRoundtable 2- Critical/Strategic Raw Materials (CRM) and Energy Policy \nThis roundtable will explore the strategic role of geology in fostering economic growth\, with a particular focus on CRM and their significance for Europe’s strategic\, economic and technological advancement. The session will begin by highlighting key EU policies and ongoing initiatives and policy frameworks from various perspectives. Further discussions will explore the role of geologists in addressing these challenges and opportunities\, showcasing how geology boosts economies. The session will conclude with an exchange of ideas for improvement and enhanced collaboration.

DESCRIPTION:Join Dr. Isabelle Moretti for a masterclass on “Where and why H2 accumulation could be prospected?” This course offers an in-depth overview of natural hydrogen (H2) exploration\, covering the current understanding of H2 generation in the subsurface\, global landscape\, and ongoing activities. Gain insights into H2 as a clean energy source and the key factors influencing its accumulation and exploration. Ideal for geologists\, energy professionals\, and researchers. \nWhen: 9 October 2024\, 12:00-14:00 CEST \nWhere: Online \nPresenter: Dr. Isabelle Moretti \n\n\nCourse outline: \nThe aim of this short course is to provide an overview of natural hydrogen (H2) exploration activity and knowledge. The course will cover the current understanding on H2 generation in the subsurface\, the global landscape and ongoing activities related to natural H2. \nAbout the Presenter: \nIsabelle Moretti\, a scientist with a Master’s in Mathematics and a Ph.D. in Earth Sciences from the University of Paris XI (Orsay)\, began her career in 1987 at the French Petroleum Institute (now IFPen). She has held various global project management roles and developed professional software in structural geology. Isabelle has authored over 160 scientific papers and supervised approximately 30 Ph.D. students. She joined ENGIE in 2012\, where she served as Technical Officer and later as Scientific Director. Currently\, she leads a natural hydrogen team at Pau University (UPPA) and serves on the boards of EartH2\, INERIS\, and Pole Avenia. \nLearning outcomes: \n\nThe H2-generating rocks\, generalities about the reactions that allow H2 generation in the subsurface\nSimiliarities and differences within the petroleum systems\nThe prospective geological contexts\nPanorama of the countries where the exploration starts\nThe ecosystem and its growth\n\nDesigned for:  \nThis course offers an opportunity for those unfamiliar with the subject to gain a comprehensive understanding of current developments. No expertise in geology\, geochemistry\, or geophysics is required. It serves as an introduction to the new E&P landscape; however\, if you’re already working in this field\, it may not provide new insights. On the other hand\, if you’re seeking a broad overview to help you navigate the extensive literature and attend specialized conferences\, such as H-NAT 2024 in Paris this November\, this course is ideal for you. \nFees:  \n\nEurGeol Title Holder: 60 € (incl. Belgian VAT)\nRegular: 67€ (incl. Belgian VAT)\n\nSecure your spot: https://tinyurl.com/EFGA-H2 \nThis course is organised as part of our media partnership with the H-Nat Summit. Our audience can register for the conference with a 20% discount with the dedicated discount code: HNAT24EFG
