SUMMARY:Policy dialogue: Geology for a Safe\, Secure and Sustainable Europe
DESCRIPTION:Policy Dialogue  \nHeld at the European Parliament in Brussels\, this meeting presents a crucial opportunity to foster dialogue between European institutions and the professional geoscience community. It aims to align on key actions and topics\, ensuring that the community is well-informed about expectations\, while also allowing geologists to present their strategic proposals for support. EFG will present its EFG Policy Manifesto for European Competitiveness. Notably\, high-level representatives\, including Presidents and/or Executive Directors from 27 geoscience National Associations\, will participate. With EFG’s extensive international partnerships\, the event will have a global impact. \nRoundtable 1 – Climate Change\, Environment and Natural Hazards  \nThis roundtable will explore the critical intersection of geoscience with climate action\, environmental protection\, and natural hazards (prevention). It will start by highlighting key EU policies and ongoing initiatives from different perspectives. Discussions will then shift to the role of geosciences in mitigating climate change impacts\, with a focus on land management\, hydrogeology\, soil preservation\, and waste management. The session will conclude with an exchange of ideas for improvement and better engagement. \nRoundtable 2- Critical/Strategic Raw Materials (CRM) and Energy Policy  \nThis roundtable will explore the strategic role of geology in fostering economic growth\, with a particular focus on CRM and their significance for Europe’s strategic\, economic and technological advancement. The session will begin by highlighting key EU policies and ongoing initiatives and policy frameworks from various perspectives. Further discussions will explore the role of geologists in addressing these challenges and opportunities\, showcasing how geology boosts economies. The session will conclude with an exchange of ideas for improvement and enhanced collaboration.
