The European Federation of Geologists (EFG) has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Women in Mining and Industry Spain (WIM Spain).

WIM Spain President Mónica Muñoz Monge

WIM Spain is an organisation that aims to promote the participation of women in the mining and industrial sectors in Spain. Its mission is to foster equal opportunities, support the professional development of women in these fields, and create a more inclusive and diverse environment. WIM Spain seeks to highlight female talent, drive positive change in the industry, and provide a supportive community for women working in or aspiring to work in these sectors.

Purpose of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
By partnering with WIM Spain, EFG reinforces its commitment to gender equality and inclusivity within the geosciences. The collaboration aims to amplify the visibility of women geoscientists, support career development, and foster a more diverse and resilient geoscience community that reflects the complexity and importance of the challenges our planet faces today.

Since its inception, WIM Spain has had, as one of its goals, the aim of showcasing the reality of mining and industry, emphasising the diversity of fields and specialties involved. That’s why WIM Spain has always committed to collaborating with different organisations in the sector. By signing the collaboration agreement with the EFG, WIM Spain is joining forces and resources to achieve common goals, optimise efforts, share experiences and knowledge, and increase their impact on society.

In relation to the signing of the MoU, EFG President David Govoni stated:

“EFG is proud to join forces with WIM Spain to promote greater inclusion of women in geosciences. Empowering women strengthens our profession and is essential to tackling the complex challenges our planet faces.”

WIM Spain President Mónica Muñoz Monge added:

“We are at a critical moment facing numerous challenges. I firmly believe it is essential to show the role of geology in all of them, and it is vital to rely on the talent and strength of women to overcome them.”
