During the 5th International Professional Geology Conference (IPGC), the European Federation of Geologists (EFG) invites you to join a unique in-person training series designed to equip geoscientists with essential communication and public engagement skills.

The Geo-Ambassador Courses (Levels 1–3) are tailored for professionals and students who want to:

  • Enhance their science communication skills
  • Influence decision-makers effectively
  • Promote the societal relevance of geosciences

You can register for the full series or attend individual courses on 6 and 7 November. Each course is available for just €50 for the IPGC participants.

ABOUT THE TUTOR

  • Skilled science communicator with 35 years of experience as an ecologist and communicator across professional, government, and public sectors

COURSE 1: Becoming a Geo-Ambassador (Level 1)

DATE: 6 November 2025, 08:30-10:30 & 11:00-13:00 (4 hours)

This in-person training is designed for geoscientists ready to engage broader audiences through social media. The course covers social media types (commenter, reposter, primary poster), goal-setting, strategy building, and how to measure success through analytics. A second session helps participants develop their personal geoscience brand for professional communication.

  • Session 1: Social Media Posting and Video Creation That Gets Noticed
  • Session 2: Building Your Personal Geoscientist Brand

COURSE 2: Expanding Impact as a Geo-Ambassador (Level 2)

DATE: 6 November 2025, 14:00-18:00 (4 hours)

Take your skills further in this in-person session. Learn how to communicate effectively with public audiences and decision-makers, and build a tailored communications plan.

This session introduces public affairs communication essentials. Participants will learn how to:

  • Scale messages for various government levels
  • Understand audience needs
  • Prepare tools like one-pagers and elevator speeches

Attendees are encouraged to bring a topic or example to develop their own communications outline.

COURSE 3: Streamlining Your Communications with a Focus on Government (Level 3)

DATE: 7 November 2025, 08:30–13:00 (4.5 hours)

This hands-on workshop guides geoscientists in developing tailored public affairs strategies with real-world applications.

Topics include:

  • Outcome definition and target audience analysis
  • SMART goal setting
  • Writing effective one-pagers for legislative outreach

Participants will draft their own strategy based on a specific case or project.
