EFG, AGI and AIPG further broaden their cooperation and enhance the Continuing Professional Development of geoscientists

The European Federation of Geologists (EFG) and its counterparts in the USA, the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG), and the American Geosciences Institute (AGI), have agreed to advancing decisively the international recognition of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes.

EFG now officially recognises, within its own CPD system, the points (CEUs) awarded via the AGI/AIPG Geoscience Online Learning Initiative GOLI. The recognition of the American CEUs at European level is interesting for all European Geologist (EurGeols) title holders interested in broadening their knowledge about a wide variety of geoscience technical and professional topics. Taking advantage of this agreement, EurGeols who live and/or work in the USA now also benefit from additional facilities to complete their annual CPD requirements.

In exchange for this now officialised recognition by EFG, the course providers offer the same registration conditions to European Geologist title holders as to Competent Persons registered with the AIPG, granting thus an additional benefit to EurGeols.

The agreement between EFG, AIPG, and AGI not only enhances the possibilities for Continuing Professional Development at international level, invigorating thus one of the pillars of professional certification – regular CPD training is indeed one of the requirements for the annual renewal of professional titles –, but it also underlines the international dimension of the profession of geology where mobility is one of the keys to a long-sighted fulfilling career.

The next GOLI webinar “Geoscience Ethics Case Histories: Conflicts of Interest #1” will take place on 31 May 2018 at 1:00 PM EDT. Participants will earn 0.1 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for attending this 1-hour event. The webinar will feature a panel of experts who will discuss the ethics behind conflicts of interest in the geosciences.
