SUMMARY:Industrial Minerals and Aggregates: The Foundation of Europe's Strategic Autonomy\, Competitiveness and Clean Industrial Future
DESCRIPTION:19 November 2026 | 09:30–14:30 | European Parliament\, Brussels \nThe European Federation of Geologists (EFG) and the Association of Greek Geologists (AGG) are co-organising a high-level policy event entitled “Industrial Minerals and Aggregates: The Foundation of Europe’s Strategic Autonomy\, Competitiveness and Clean Industrial Future”\, taking place on 19 November 2026 at the European Parliament in Brussels\, hosted by MEP Yannis Maniatis (S&D). \nIndustrial minerals and aggregates are indispensable to Europe’s economy and strategic ambitions. They provide the essential raw materials for construction\, manufacturing\, advanced technologies\, renewable energy\, agriculture\, healthcare and numerous everyday products and services. Despite their fundamental role\, the industrial minerals and aggregates sector often receives less political attention than metallic critical raw materials\, although it faces many of the same challenges relating to permitting\, land access\, workforce development\, public acceptance\, investment and long-term resource security. \nAs the European Union advances its competitiveness agenda\, Clean Industrial Deal\, Circular Economy objectives and strategic raw materials policy\, there is a timely opportunity to strengthen recognition of industrial minerals and aggregates as an essential pillar of European industrial resilience and strategic autonomy. \nThe event will feature the presentation of the European Industrial Minerals Manifesto\, setting out a shared vision and policy recommendations for a competitive\, sustainable and resilient industrial minerals sector. \nProgramme: \n9:30-10:15 – Opening Session \n\nWelcome by MEP Yannis Maniatis\nKey recommendations from the European Industrial Minerals Manifesto\, David Govoni\, EFG President\, and Maria Tzima\, Association of Greek Geologists (AGG) President\n\n10:15-11:15 – High-Level Policy Session: Industrial Minerals and Aggregates at the Heart of Europe’s Competitiveness \nModerator: Pablo Núñez Fernández\, EFG Board \n\nYannis Maniatis\, MEP\, S&D\nGerardo Herrera\, European Commission\, DG GROW\nPanagiotis Zachariadis\, EFG\nLeah Wilson\, President Industrial Minerals Association Europe (IMA-Europe)\nKonstantinos Laskaridis\, Hellenic Survey of Geology & Mineral Exploration & EuroGeoSurveys\n\n11:15-11:25 – Technical break \n11:25-12:25 – Industry Perspectives: Delivering Sustainable Industrial Minerals and Aggregates for Europe’s Green and Digital Transition \nModerator: Rudi Ruggeri\, CNG \n\nAntonis Antoniou Latouros\, President at Aggregates Europe (AE): Aggregates: Essential Local Resources for Housing\, Infrastructure and Europe’s Green and Digital Transition—Securing Sustainable Supply\, Circularity and Responsible Production\nBrecht De Roo\, Director Sustainability\, HSE and Public Affairs EMEA at CARMEUSE: Decarbonisation pathways and sustainability targets in the lime industry in the context of ETS developments \nJyrki Bergstrom\, IMERYS: Responsible resource management and the importance of reserves and resources classification\nCathy Blervacq\, Vice President Sustainability at SIBELCO: Case studies on renewables\, biodiversity management and circularity\nThomas Richter\, Vice President Global Government and Public Affairs at SOLVAY: Sustainable production and innovation in carbonate-based industrial minerals\n\n12:25-12:40 – Conclusion \nPablo Núñez Fernández\, EFG Board \n12:45 – End of the morning session \nNetworking lunch: \nA complementary policy lunch session\, “Industrial Minerals and EU Policy: Navigating the Regulatory Framework for Sustainable Resource Development”\, will take place from 13:00 to 14:30 at the European Parliament. It will provide an opportunity for further discussion on EU legislation affecting mineral exploration\, extraction and permitting\, including water protection and nature restoration. \nConsult the full programme: \nhttps://eurogeologists.eu/go/industrial-minerals-aggregates-event \nRegistration: \nThe event is by invitation only\, and places are limited. If you are interested in attending\, please contact us at events@eurogeologists.eu. Attendance is subject to confirmation by the organisers. \nSupported by:  \nIndustrial Minerals Association Europe (IMA-Europe) \n \nAggregates Europe (AE)

SUMMARY:World Conference on Sampling and Blending (WCSB12)
DESCRIPTION:The WCSB12 theme is Sampling for a Sustainable World which aims to provide discussions on relevant issues across mining and minerals; raw materials and products; food and feed; medicine and pharma; recycling; and the environment. WCSB12 will seek to highlight as many fields as possible where proper sampling is performed in the service of sustainable science\, technology and industry\, the circular economy\, and mitigation of climate change. \nRepresentative sampling practice based on the Theory of Sampling (TOS) is key to many industrial applications. Efficient use of the Earths resources\, in its widest sense\, is a basis for developing sustainability in the context of UN Sustainable Development Goals SDG 12 and 13. \nWCSB12 will comprise Keynote presentations across key sampling applications\, supported by regular contributions. Pre- and/or post-conference workshops may be organised. \nWith thanks to the International Pierre Gy Sampling Association (IPGSA) \nAims of the Conference \nWCSB12 aims to bring together the diverse international sampling community to present and debate concepts and ideas for a standardised approach to sampling embodied in TOS. The opportunity to meet\, exchange ideas\, and share practical experiences will be a significant benefit for attendees. The Conference will provide understanding and insights for practitioners\, academics\, manufacturers and engineering firms aiming to achieve representative sampling through TOS. \nAttendees will find that the conference presents a mix of Theory and Practical (case studies) presentations; with the opportunity to network with a range of researchers and practitioners. \nConvenors \n\nDr Simon Dominy (Camborne School of Mines\, University of Exeter)\nProfessor Hylke Glass (Camborne School of Mines\, University of Exeter)
